Recreational and Physical Activities

Recreational and physical activities help to improve signs of depression, isolation and overall physical and mental health.

Having fun in recovery is important for those working on their recovery. Recreational and physical activity help our clients to learn what having fun is.  This is often is an entirely new adventure for an addict. Boredom is one of the biggest reasons for relapse.

During relapse prevention discussions they spend a lot of time talking about different ways to deal with boredom. Teaching clients how to have fun in treatment allows them to easily incorporate fun activities into their regular daily lives and lessens the chance of relapse.

Clients are encouraged to try new activities and to push themselves outside of their comfort zone. Recreational activities are also a way for Serenity Living Management to encourage positive team work and improve communication skills.

It is a proven fact that physical activity helps to improve signs of depression, isolation, and overall physical and mental health. For the recovering person, any type of physical activity can be an important step to recovery. Serenity Living Management also provides offsite gym membership.  We encourage other physical activities during the week, like yoga and walking. These will help improve physical and mental health.

Addiction can cause serious damage to the way the brain responds to happy or exciting events. By incorporating physical activity, the addict or alcoholic can improve brain function. Often in early recovery people are misdiagnosed with depression. Serenity Living Management believes the benefits of recreational and physical activities are enormous. They balance boredom and decrease depression.
